Sun safety

From my experience as a parent, sun safety is crucial, especially for babies under six months. Since their skin is so delicate, I always make sure to keep my infant out of direct sunlight, especially during peak hours from 10 am to 4 pm. It's surprising how much difference dressing them in light, breathable clothing that covers arms and legs can make in preventing sunburn. A wide-brimmed hat is also a must for protecting the face, ears, and neck—areas often overlooked but highly sensitive to UV rays. Additionally, I’ve learned the importance of sunglasses that block at least 99% of UV rays to protect my child’s eyes. Applying sunscreen frequently, especially when outdoors for extended times, adds another layer of defense. Although some parents might feel hesitant to apply sunscreen on very young babies, pediatricians and trusted sources confirm its safety when used appropriately. Using these comprehensive sun safety measures has helped me feel confident in protecting my child's skin and preventing painful sunburns or long-term damage. Establishing these habits early can contribute greatly to lifelong skin health and minimize risks of skin conditions later on.
