♟️ Children are not pawns. Love should never be used as leverage against you 💜

Pregnancy doesn’t always stop narcissistic abuse—in some relationships, an abusive partner may use pregnancy or children to gain more control. From emotional manipulation and withholding support to threats and using the child as leverage, these tactics can extend the cycle of abuse. Recognize the patterns, protect your peace, and remember: You and your child/ children deserve love, safety, and stability—not manipulation tactics. 💜

... Read moreDealing with narcissistic abuse during pregnancy can be overwhelming, especially when the abuse intensifies because the abuser believes they have more control due to the pregnancy. From my personal experience and conversations with others, it's crucial to recognize that this form of manipulation often includes withholding love and support, creating fear, and using the child to maintain power over you. One tactic narcissists use is to suddenly become cold or distant during pregnancy, knowing you’re less likely to leave because of the baby’s vulnerability. This withdrawal is not due to a loss of feelings but is a calculated effort to make you feel isolated and dependent. They may also gaslight you by making you doubt your perceptions — calling you “too sensitive” or “crazy” if you try to speak up or protect yourself. Many also exploit the legal and family systems as a method of intimidation, threatening to take the baby or limit your contact. This fosters constant stress and fear, which can negatively affect both your mental health and the child's well-being. Financial control is another form of manipulation, where the abusive partner withholds money, refuses to provide support, or uses finances as leverage. This dependence can trap many in the cycle of abuse longer than necessary. Recognizing these tactics empowers you to create boundaries and seek support, whether through counseling, support groups for abused mothers, or legal advocacy. Remember, the abuse is about power, not the child. Prioritizing your peace and safety builds a stable environment for your child where love and security replace manipulation. If you are experiencing this, reaching out to trusted friends, family, or professional resources can be a vital first step. You deserve support, love, and healing, for both yourself and your children.
