Intimacy rejection can be a sign of conflicting desire types and deeper emotional needs that aren't being met.

First, let's talk about deeper emotional needs when it comes to long term relationships using Inner Work Theory:

The Stage of Accountability:

- ease, spontaneity & sensuality can shift as your life evolves. Long term relationships normally require more responsibility and shared tasks. This is the healthy stage of accountability. However, it's important to know how to not get lost in the responsibilities and seriousness of everyday life and learn how to cultivate fun, deeper connection, and physical intimacy - which is where the stage of ease comes in...

The Stage of Ease:

- Ease is the next level of relationship development after accountability. It's the stage where structure and effort from both partners creates consistent safety for deeper connection to flow. Ease is created through openness, communication, play, and rest. It's the balancing of effort and surrendering to what that effort can create.

- there cannot be all play and no work. So there cannot be lasting intimacy if there isn't effort to create emotional connection & nervous system regulation. This is imperative, especially for women, to feel safe enough to respond to desire.

Now let's talk about two different desire types that can lead to intimacy rejection.

Spontaneous Desire:

- most common in men

- Desire is sparked on its own: through something like a sudden thought, a look, or a small moment during the day

- The urge to connect through physical intimacy is more dependent on the sudden mood without needing anything else to drive it (less dependent on emotional state or emotional buildup)

Responsive Desire:

- most common in women

- Desire comes from their emotional state and ability to feel calm, safe, and emotionally connected to their own body and their partner.

- Things that create stress, high mental load, tension, and pressure turn their receptivity to intimacy off.

- They need help creating an environment for relaxation, connection, and surrender.

Here are actions that can create more ease for someone with responsive desire:

1. Show up accountably to share the load of responsibilities - overwhelm and resentment will crush presence and connection.

2. Learn how your partner feels the most safe and loved - what helps them feel replenished & connected?

3. Start foreplay before you want to be intimate: flirt, give compliments, initiate moments of laughter and play.

4. Be present: be curious about them, offer reassurance and emotional support, initiate small moments of physical affection without pressure for more. Presence creates safety and safety is the backbone of emotional connection.

Remember that small actions of care will turn into consistent connection over time!

... Read moreIntimacy rejection often reflects complex layers of emotional needs and differing desire types within a relationship. Recognizing these underlying dynamics is crucial for couples aiming to strengthen their bond and maintain physical and emotional closeness over time. The stages described—Accountability and Ease—highlight the evolving nature of long-term partnerships. Accountability involves sharing responsibilities and managing life's demands without losing sight of the relationship's emotional and sensual aspects. Ease, on the other hand, provides a foundation of safety and openness where connection can thrive through balanced effort and relaxation. It's important to understand how spontaneous and responsive desire operate differently in partners. Spontaneous desire, more common in men, arises suddenly and independently of emotional buildup, whereas responsive desire, often seen in women, depends heavily on feeling emotionally safe and connected. Stress, mental load, and tension can dampen responsive desire, resulting in intimacy rejection. Creating an environment conducive to responsive desire requires conscious efforts such as sharing responsibilities to reduce overwhelm, learning what makes your partner feel safe and loved, initiating foreplay and playful moments well before intimacy, and maintaining presence with emotional support and gentle affection. These actions nurture emotional safety, which is essential for desire and intimacy. The phrase "Rejecting Intimacy himmm" reflects the hesitation or confusion that can arise when one partner experiences intimacy rejection. Understanding this can help partners approach the situation with empathy and patience rather than frustration. Moreover, consistent small acts of care and attentiveness accumulate over time to build trust and deepen connection. It’s a journey of mutual presence, understanding, and adaptability. For those interested in diving deeper, resources like "The Inner Work of Relationships" offer valuable insights and practical guidance on fostering lasting intimacy with consistency, openness, and sensuality. Such guidance can be especially helpful in navigating the ebb and flow of desire types and emotional needs as relationships mature. Ultimately, embracing these principles can transform intimacy rejection from a source of conflict into an opportunity for growth, enhanced connection, and renewed passion within long-term relationships.

Blows my mind at the feminist mindset nowadays. As if women go to work at 4 am pulling locomotives across town, stop by the store for supper supplies , to go home and wake the husband up who has been asleep by the pool all day. 😏 You work - so what? You cook/clean - so what? Men do those too. Now what’s the excuse? Hormones….?

Wow these comments do NOT pass the vibe check. As the partner with higher drive, no healthy partner should ever want their partner to force themselves or begrudgingly partake in intimacy. Gross. Sure it sucks to be “rejected”, but you need to find solutions and communicate together toward unity and emotional intimacy.
