What does it mean to love someone?❤

HeLo humans, this topic came to my mind because my current bf(ex now 01/24) initially asked me this and it was hard to explain it in words.

Feel free to leave your views on this! :

❤What does it mean to love someone?❤

How do you love someone? He asked me all these because he has never loved someone before. How would you explain this to someone nowadays? Especially when its so easy to go find "better" and dispose off someone when you find something better, plus with all the dating apps around.

Ofcourse this doesn't apply as much to people that found their special someone in school. How do adults find someone to fall in love with nowadays when its all so superficial - a constant search for someone to check all your boxes.

😶😶🫥🫥🫥🫥🫥😶😶

Personal experience

I totally had that mindset where I had to find someone that checked all the boxes but it was definitely not possible. I think in the past I was so busy searching for someone to check the box of all the surface level things such as finances, looks, surface level characteristics instead of finding out whether this person is for me.

After meeting quite abit of people I think the most important things to look out for are attraction, chemistry, values, life outlook and compatibility - all these things have to align if not the relationship will just die eventually. Attraction and chemistry starts the foundation and the rest helps to build it up and maintain it.

😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨

🖤My thoughts on situationships👽🖤🤚

Why I'm talking abt this: because my friend told me people are dating for a year and not getting into a relationship??

Why are people still doing it 🫡😮‍💨 There's honestly no benefits to this unless you want to explore your options when you're young i guess..

But it takes away the chance for you to experience falling in love with someone and actually solve problems together. It kind of takes away the whole uniqueness of having that special someone to go though things with.

Kind of like desensitizing ourselves to identify what is a real genuine connection from a temporary hot eye candy ya know. Its a waste of time to me because it doesnt teach you much, its just about having fun. A lil bit is fine but i think its causing the whole generation to play down on actually falling in love and creating very hyper independent people that wouldn't know how to communicate their feelings anymore T^T

Im a hopeless romantic, I love love and the best part of it is not being afraid to embrace those scary feelings because they usually end up being very worth it when you find that special person - even if its just for that moment - but at least you can take them as a chapter in your life and not a situationship that didn't start anything🫠

💓💓💓💓

So how did I describe loving someone to him?

1. I told him it was mainly about choosing to stay no matter how things are, even when it is hard.

(unless that person starts hurting you without any effort to change their toxic behaviours.)

A good partner would be willing to self-reflect, listen and be emotionally mature enough to solve problems together.

2. Thinking about them day and night and wanting to be with them all the time. They energise you instead of draining you.

3. Wanting to put that other person first but its reciprocal, so both persons just want the best for each other.

4. When it feels safe to have hard conversations, and you are completely comfortable being yourself around them. There's no need to hide when you are upset and its okay to be vulnerable.

5. They make you feel loved, supported, happy and at peace. They also push you to be the best version of yourself.

These are just what I could think of so far... it certainly could be a good thing to talk about when you are meeting someone new :3 #datingtips

🥰🥰🥰🥰

Lastly, its so so important to love ourselves before being able to attract healthy love.

... Read moreFrom my own experiences and observations, I’ve realized that understanding love goes beyond just feelings; it involves intentional actions and mutual growth. For those wondering how to communicate better with a partner, I found that openness and vulnerability are key—the ability to have hard conversations without fear is a true sign of love. Many people today confuse love with attraction or convenience, especially with the rise of dating apps making it easy to move on quickly. But true love requires time, patience, and effort to build something lasting. That means appreciating someone even when they don’t check every superficial box, focusing instead on real compatibility and shared values. Situationships, or prolonged casual dating without commitment, seem common now, but they often leave people feeling disconnected and uncertain. I believe that embracing love means being courageous enough to face challenges together and work on self-improvement. Love isn’t just about feeling good—it’s about supporting each other to become the best versions of ourselves. Also, self-love is essential before expecting healthy love from anyone else. When you respect and accept yourself, you're more likely to attract reciprocal and genuine feelings. So, to anyone struggling with defining love, remember it’s a combination of attraction, chemistry, compatibility, and shared life goals, balanced by care, effort, and emotional maturity. In summary, loving someone means choosing them through ups and downs, supporting their growth, communicating honestly, and feeling safe in your shared space. It’s a beautiful commitment that’s worth the vulnerability and dedication it demands.
