3 THINGS YOU SHOULD NEVER HAND A NARCISSIST DURING A FIGHT

You started the conversation with ONE question.

Then you gave another example.

Answered their unrelated question.

Used one exaggerated word they could challenge.

And suddenly, you’re defending five different things while the question you originally asked is still sitting there unanswered.

Pay attention to the handoff.

You asked.

Now you’re answering.

If you keep leaving conversations with ten new arguments and the original question still unanswered, When Their Explanation Still Doesn’t Explain It is for that exact moment.

It’s $9. Link in bio.

... Read moreFrom my experience dealing with narcissistic individuals, understanding what not to give them during a fight is crucial for maintaining your sanity and setting healthy boundaries. One major pitfall is handing over control by engaging in a defense that shifts your focus away from the crucial question you initially posed. Narcissists are masterfully skilled in manipulating conversations, often turning a single inquiry into multiple unrelated arguments that distract and confuse. This tactic dilutes your original point and leaves you exhausted in a whirlwind of explanations that get you nowhere. I learned early on never to answer every unrelated question they throw back at you or to accept their challenge on amplified words. Using exaggerated or emotional language gives them ammunition to counterattack or dismiss your concerns as overblown. Instead, I now stick to concise, factual language and re-center the conversation on the original issue. Another mistake is over-explaining or offering multiple examples, which narcissists exploit to create additional debates, pulling focus from the heart of the matter. It’s essential to keep your responses minimal and consistent, refusing to be sidetracked by their attempts to muddy the waters. Ultimately, the key takeaway is paying close attention to the 'handoff' in conversations. When you ask a question, resist the urge to defend or justify excessively. This prevents you from ending up answering ten new arguments while your initial question remains unaddressed. By implementing these boundaries, not only do you protect your emotional energy, but you also maintain clarity in communication. This approach has helped me feel empowered rather than drained in confrontations, allowing me to focus on healing and growth beyond the toxicity of narcissistic abuse.
