CTSD is very important to be aware of

Something people don’t think about is when people have CPTSD,or Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The regular more common PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) is trauma from one specific event that took place in your life. Whereas CPTSD is multiple different traumatic events that have happened in your life that cause what seems like permanent damage to your brain. It’s not permanent but it’s incredibly hard to grow from. This is something I have and wanted to spread awareness to. The first step is always talking to a doctor or therapist and connecting the dots to see if you have any of the symptoms. #mentalhealthjourney #mentalhealth #cptsdawareness #cptsd #traumahealingjourney

2023/12/2 Edited to

... Read moreWhen I first learned about Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD), it was a lightbulb moment. Unlike the more commonly known PTSD, which often stems from a single traumatic event, CPTSD emerges from prolonged, repeated trauma, often in childhood or situations where escape was impossible. It's not just a collection of symptoms; it’s a profound rewiring of your entire system. I remember feeling constantly on edge, that exaggerated startle response making me jump at every little noise. And the exhaustion from hypervigilance? It felt like my body was screaming, leading to those mysterious physical pains. It's not just emotional; it's deeply physical. I’d often feel overwhelmed in crowds, a symptom I never connected to my trauma until much later. The constant boredom, even when I had things to do, and trouble sleeping were daily battles. These were just some of the 'Things I Didn't Know Were Symptoms of C-PTSD' that resonated so deeply with me. It’s like my brain got stuck in survival mode. The constant vigilance, inability to concentrate, and recurring nightmares – they're not just 'in your head.' CPTSD literally wires your brain differently, impacting areas responsible for emotion regulation and memory. My 'brain on C-PTSD' felt like a constant battle against feeling worthless or like a burden. Those self-deprecating thoughts, like 'I don't have a right to exist' or 'I don't matter,' were a daily struggle, and recognizing them as symptoms, not just personal failings, was a huge step. While the initial step is always reaching out to a professional, my healing journey has shown me that recovery is multi-faceted. Therapy, especially trauma-informed approaches like EMDR or Somatic Experiencing, has been transformative. But it's also about building daily practices: grounding techniques when I feel overwhelmed, setting boundaries, and practicing self-compassion when those self-deprecating thoughts surface. It's not about erasing the past, but learning to live with its echoes in a healthier way. If you're trying to help someone with CPTSD, remember patience and validation are key. Instead of trying to 'fix' them, offer a safe space and listen without judgment. Understanding that their brain processes stress differently can help you offer more effective support. Small acts of kindness and consistent presence can make a huge difference in their complex trauma healing journey. Spreading CPTSD awareness isn't just about defining it; it's about validating experiences and offering pathways to hope. It's a tough journey, but it's not one you have to walk alone.
