I want to broke up with him after seeing his condo

Let me explain. I dated this guy for a few months, super into him, he’s cute, great personality. He invited me over Saturday, said his place was a mess. I laughed, thought he was just being modest. But when I walk in? Whoa. Tiny apartment, but not just cluttered. Piles of trash on the floor, sink overflowing with dishes onto the counter, stains on the couch and carpet. Week-old food on the table, and this moldy mildew smell so strong I could taste it. I tried to play it cool, but he must’ve noticed. I stayed for a movie, left early. Next day, I called it off and said we weren’t compatible. He blew up, said I led him on no reason. I didn’t mention the apartment… maybe I should’ve?

... Read moreWhen dating someone new, visiting their personal space can provide surprising insights into their habits and lifestyle. A cluttered or unsanitary living environment, such as piles of trash, overflowing dishes, or pervasive mold smells, often signals deeper issues like lack of organization, self-care, or priorities. These factors can directly affect relationship dynamics, including comfort level and compatibility. Addressing living conditions is a sensitive topic, and the fear of hurting a partner's feelings often causes hesitation. The question "How do I do it in a rough way?" reflects a common concern about communicating honestly yet kindly. Experts recommend using empathy and 'I' statements to express feelings without assigning blame, such as "I felt uncomfortable in your space because of the mess, and it makes me question our compatibility." Furthermore, mold and mildew are health hazards that should never be overlooked. Mold exposure can cause respiratory issues and allergic reactions, making it not only a relationship but also a personal health concern. Recognizing these warning signs early helps in making informed decisions about the future of the relationship. Ultimately, compatibility extends beyond personality and attraction—it includes shared values about cleanliness, lifestyle, and environment. If these are not aligned, it may lead to tension and dissatisfaction. Being honest with yourself and your partner about such non-negotiables is crucial to avoid resentment or confusion. This story also highlights the importance of transparency in dating. If something bothers you, addressing it carefully and timely can prevent misunderstandings. While the boyfriend in this story felt led on, the underlying issue was clear incompatibility revealed through his living situation. Learning to navigate such situations with compassion and honesty is vital in building healthy and respectful relationships.

Hi, Life Coach here. Looking at this and hearing that he actually invited you INTO his personal space with it looking and smelling as you described tells me a few things and I’d like to offer some insight that may bring understanding and even assist you with a second and more empathetic conversation with him. 1. He apparently really likes and TRUSTS you. Inviting you in was a step towards possibly acknowledging that, “I NEED HELP and I don’t know where to start.” He felt SAFE with you- that’s a blessing. 2. Often times when people have these types of living situations it is an outward manifestation of what is happening within their mental and emotional state (DEPRESSION, ANXIETY… possibly some ADHD- usually UNMANAGED and UNMEDICATED or SELF MEDICATED, i.e. alcohol, drugs…). 3. In THAT moment, he very well may have been open to a conversation along the lines of, “Hey, let’s clear some space and clean a few dishes first so that we can enjoy the movie and snacks better…” you absolutely could follow with some boundaries conversations surrounding not making it a habit of coming in and cleaning up especially if you didn’t create the mess, etc. you could also say something along the lines of, “Hey it looks you haven’t been home much to get to your housework, have you considered a cleaning service?” 4. Invite him to your space and perhaps him seeing the cleanliness of your home might prompt conversation about HOW to clean, etc… 5. Lastly, if there’s any interest at all, even ad a friend, just listen and perhaps connect him to some resources to help him address the issue(s). There’s something clearly wrong at the root here. I hope this brings a different perspective. Have a blessed day🙂
