He doesn’t care to connect with me
My dad was widowed with a son when he met my mom. His son was 20 when I was born and I’ve never met him once. My dad and him chat on the phone sometimes, hang out every so often, but he’s never cared to meet me. I tried following him on social media but he ignored. Most days, I just say I’m an only child.
Last week, My dad’s overseas relatives (his aunt and a couple cousins) came for a visit, we had a little family get-together. They asked where my dad’s son was, surprised he didn’t show, said they wanted to meet “his kids.” Then they turned to me: “How’s your relationship? Managing that 20-year gap?”
I told them the truth that I’ve never met the guy. Because he wants nothing to do with me or my mom. They were shocked like “Wait, he’s your brother?” I said yeah but he’s a stranger. Always will be, probably.
After we left, my dad chewed me out. He said I didn’t need to “broadcast” that, it sounds bad. I told him they asked why lie? He said I should’ve been more tactful, “that’s not how families work.” But this is my real life. Why am I wrong for being honest?

It all comes back to dad, he should’ve initiated a relationship at the beginning with your mom and then with you after you were born. Dad is at fault here and he’s trying to absolve himself by blaming you. You be truthful, don’t be influenced by anyone else. Blessed be.
