How do you handle conflict in your relationship?

Me and my boyfriend (we’re both 18) have been together as of January 16 for a total of four months now. We have a healthy relationship with so far no conflict or issues. We are an open book to each other with no real secrets between each other unless it’s super important not to tell the other. I feel happy and secure in my relationship especially since we talk out all our issues. If I don’t like something I’d tell my boyfriend and when he doesn’t like something he tells me as well since communication is key. Most couples I know usually have fights by now and easily build resentment around the fourth month mark due to how one of them handled the fight/argument.

Due to how I’ve witnessed fights and relationships getting messy from one fight I figured out how to handle conflict within the relationship. Here’s my list of management we must,

STOP

Take a breath

Separate from each other for at least thirty minutes

Put our phones and other electronic devices down

Calm ourselves

Talk it out

That’s my personal STSPCT method. It’s beneficial when I told my friends to use this method in their relationship it’s shown great benefits and results. Unfortunately most people don’t use these methods long term resulting in going back to previous issues.

Seeing the great results though has shown to use this in my own relationship if I have a heated debate with my partner. Remember toothpaste is easy to squeeze out of the tube but it’s harder to place back inside the tube once removed. So that being said how do you and your spouse handle conflict in your relationship, and how do you avoid building resentment?
