my experience with dv 🥲

TW: DV.

Up until this current relationship I have now, I have been in nothing but toxic, unloving relationships. Not all as terrible as this one, this was the relationship that truly broke me.

From age 17/18 until 22 years old, I allowed someone to manipulate me and use me. In all different kinds of ways. I lived with this person, moved states, broke up and got back together time and time again, until I was met with physical abüse.

This was the instance that I decided to leave, for me. Up until this point I had endured a lot of verbal abüse. I finally hit my breaking point.

Today I have a wonderful loving boyfriend who would never hurt me. We still have some healing to do, but that is okay❤️ I now work at a DV center helping people who end up in situations like I was in.

... Read moreDomestic violence (DV) is a serious issue affecting millions worldwide, encompassing physical, emotional, verbal, and psychological abuse. Survivors often struggle with feelings of isolation, low self-esteem, and trauma long after leaving abusive relationships. It’s important to recognize the signs of toxic relationships early, including controlling behavior, insults, threats, and any form of physical harm. Reaching a breaking point and seeking help can be life-saving steps. Healing is a continuous process that involves rebuilding trust, both in oneself and others, and often requires professional support from counselors, domestic violence centers, and peer support groups. Working at a DV center, as mentioned in the story, offers an invaluable way to empower survivors and raise awareness. These centers provide crisis intervention, safety planning, legal advocacy, and emotional counseling to help individuals escape abusive situations safely. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, resources like the National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-7233) and local shelters can provide confidential help. Remember, leaving an abusive relationship is courageous and necessary for one’s safety and well-being. Recovery also includes establishing healthy relationships based on respect and love, as illustrated by the author finding a loving boyfriend. Community support hashtags such as #doitforher, #toxicrelationship, and #healing foster solidarity and shared strength among survivors. Importantly, awareness and education about domestic violence can help prevent abuse and support those in need of help, making stories like these powerful tools for change and hope.

I am so proud of you. Your strength is incredible. It takes so much courage not only to leave, but to turn your pain into purpose!!! You didn’t just survive, you’re helping others find their way out, too. That’s true healing and true heroism. Much love to you 🩷

The military calls it “not enough evidence.” But the bruises, the threats, the fear—those were evidence enough for me. This video shows what “not enough” looks like. React. Share. Comment. Let them see we’re watching. Silence is how they get away with it. Awareness is how we stop them. #dome

Why do women stay? I don’t believe it’s out of some irrational belief that it is love… at least most of the time. I truly believe it’s because we are mothers. We aren’t willing to let our children be harmed and while yes… remaining with an abuser IS harmful… to many of us it’s better than the alter
