Before we can truly find ourselves, we sometimes have to stop allowing someone..

Before we can truly find ourselves, we sometimes have to stop allowing someone else to occupy the center of our story.

One of the greatest privileges of my work as a Licensed Professional Counselor is witnessing the moment a woman begins to see herself clearly again.

I once worked with a woman whose entire identity had become wrapped up in being a wife and mother. After years of emotional abuse, her husband left her for another woman.

As we began our intensive together, one thing became immediately clear.

Every conversation came back to him.

"If he would just stop drinking..."

"If he would just realize what he's doing..."

"If he would just come back..."

She believed her healing depended on his changing.

As we worked, we uncovered dozens of beliefs she had unknowingly carried for years.

"My value comes from making other people happy."

"I'm only enough if someone chooses me."

"It's my job to keep relationships together."

One by one, we examined those beliefs and asked a simple question:

"Is this actually true?"

Yet every time we made progress, the conversation drifted back to her husband.

Finally, I stood up, walked to the office door, opened it, and said,

"He's going to have to leave before we can do the real work."

She looked at me, completely confused.

Of course, he wasn't actually there.

It was a metaphor.

As long as he occupied the center of her emotional world, there was no room for her to rediscover herself.

Then came the hardest part.

She allowed herself to grieve.

Not only the loss of her marriage, but the heartbreaking reality that she had lost herself along the way.

She wept for the years she had spent believing her worth depended on someone else's approval.

But on the other side of that grief, something beautiful happened.

For the first time, she experienced what it felt like to stand on her own.

She found her voice.

She found her value.

She found her autonomy.

Watching that transformation reminded me of something I see over and over again.

Healing often requires us to stop allowing someone else to occupy the center of our story.

That is the heart of The Hidden Lie Framework™.

So many of the beliefs we carry were formed to help us survive painful experiences. They protected us when we needed them.

But they were never meant to define us.

Healing begins when those hidden beliefs are brought into the light. As we replace protection with truth, we stop living from fear and begin living from freedom.

Every woman's story is different, but the beauty of watching someone reclaim her voice, her value, and her God-given identity is beyond measure.

Because no matter how long you've believed a lie about yourself...

The truth still has the power to set you free.

🤍 I'd love to hear from you. What part of this story resonated with you the most?

... Read moreIn my own journey with overcoming emotional dependency, I found that the hardest step was recognizing that my self-worth shouldn't be tied to another person's actions or approval. Just like the woman in the article who struggled with letting go of her husband's presence at the center of her emotional life, I too had to confront the limiting beliefs that kept me trapped. These beliefs, such as thinking my value was only valid if someone chose me or that it was my job to maintain relationships at any cost, were formed as survival mechanisms during difficult times, but they ultimately restricted my growth. One transformative moment came when I allowed myself to grieve—not just for what I had lost in relationships, but for the lost parts of myself that I had neglected. Through self-reflection and therapy, I began to see that healing isn't about changing others, but about reclaiming autonomy and finding my own voice. Replacing fear and false beliefs with personal truths took time, patience, and kindness toward myself. The concept of not allowing anyone else to occupy the center of your story resonated deeply with me. It meant creating space within my emotional world for self-love, authentic desires, and independent decision-making. The process isn't linear; moments of doubt and temptation to revert to old patterns still occur. However, each time I reaffirm my value independent of others, I feel a renewed sense of freedom. If you find yourself relating to the story shared here, remember that healing begins when you bring hidden beliefs into the light and challenge their validity. It’s a courageous step toward living a life defined by your truth, not by others’ influence. Embracing this path offers profound emotional resilience, a reclaimed sense of purpose, and the joyful experience of standing fully in your own power.
