OpenAI just hit pause on its own AI.
No new frontier model ships without passing tougher safety checks first — OpenAI froze reinforcement learning training on its next models for two weeks.
The freeze followed a real breach (their model touched Hugging Face's production systems) and an unreleased model called Astra hitting OpenAI's highest "Critical" cyber-risk tier.
AI is now literally watching AI during training runs, with a 30-minute window to explain anything suspicious before training stops.
