Quitting 🚫 Oat Milk ‼️‼️

🚫 🌾📈 Did you know? Oat milk might not be as blood sugar-friendly as you think! Recent studies suggest that oat milk can cause spikes in blood sugar levels due to its high carbohydrate content. Stay informed about your favorite dairy alternative and its potential impact on your health! #OatMilk #BloodSugar #HealthAwareness 🥛📉

Here's why homemade oat milk reigns supreme:

1️⃣ Control: You decide what goes in – no hidden sugars or additives.

2️⃣ Nutrient-rich: It retains more of oats' natural goodness, like fiber, vitamins, and minerals.

Here's a simple recipe:

Ingredients:

1 cup rolled oats

4 cups water

Optional: sweeteners or flavorings like dates, vanilla, or maple syrup

Instructions:

1️⃣ Soak oats in water for 30 minutes to overnight.

2️⃣ Drain and rinse oats thoroughly.

3️⃣ Blend soaked oats with 4 cups of fresh water until smooth.

4️⃣ Strain mixture through a nut milk bag or fine mesh sieve.

5️⃣ Optional: Add sweeteners or flavorings to taste.

6️⃣ Store in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 5 days.

7️⃣ Shake well before each use.

Enjoy creamy, delicious oat milk without the sugar spikes! 🌾💚 #HomemadeOatMilk #HealthyChoices #DIY

... Read moreWhen I first jumped on the oat milk bandwagon, I thought I was making such a healthy choice! It was everywhere, and seemed like the perfect dairy alternative. But after a while, I started noticing some things... I felt a bit sluggish, and sometimes my energy would crash. It wasn't until I really started looking into the ingredients of popular oat milk brands that I had my 'aha!' moment, much like the message I saw on that image that said 'Why I Stopped drinking Oat milk'. It turns out, many of those convenient cartons on the shelf contain a lot more than just oats and water. I was shocked to find ingredients like rapeseed oil (also known as canola oil), carrageenan, and a whole host of added sugars, even in some 'unsweetened' varieties! These aren't just fillers; they can potentially contribute to inflammation, digestive issues, and those frustrating blood sugar spikes I was trying to avoid. I realized that what I thought was a healthy milk option was actually stealthily sabotaging my wellness goals. For example, rapeseed oil is a highly processed vegetable oil that can be pro-inflammatory for some people. And thickeners like gums? While not inherently bad for everyone, they can cause digestive upset for sensitive individuals. The worst offender for me, though, was the hidden sugars. Even if it didn't say 'sweetened,' some brands would use maltodextrin or other forms of sugar that kept my glucose levels on a roller coaster. This made me question if I was truly making a healthy milk choice. This deep dive into labels is exactly why I decided to take control and start making my own. Not only do I know exactly what's going into my body, but it's also surprisingly cost-effective in the long run. Think about how many cartons you buy versus a bag of oats! Plus, it's way better for the environment, reducing all that packaging waste. If you're still relying on store-bought for convenience, here's my advice: become a label detective! Look for brands with the shortest ingredient list possible – ideally just oats, water, and maybe a pinch of salt. Always opt for unsweetened, and try to avoid those with added oils or gums if you can. But honestly, once you try homemade, you might never go back! You can adjust the consistency to your liking, add a touch of vanilla, a date for natural sweetness, or even a spoonful of cacao powder for a chocolatey treat. Don't forget, the oat pulp leftover can be used in baking or even smoothies, reducing waste even further. Switching to homemade was one of the best decisions I made for my health and my wallet!
