As someone who didn’t remember much about this conflict, I found the story eye-opening and important. It’s a part of recent history that deserves more attention, especially for readers outside of Spain. I do wish the book had included more historical context at the beginning to help readers unfamiliar with the situation better understand the roots of the unrest and connect more deeply with the people affected.
That said, the climax of the novel was both terrifying and heartbreaking. Marsh’s storytelling shines brightest in these moments, and I was left wanting to dig deeper into the real history behind the events. This book is a great starting point for those interested in the human side of political conflict and how it shapes lives—especially through the eyes of the young.
