Tiimo: iPhone App of the Year for Chaotic Brains

Apple picked Tiimo as iPhone App of the Year – it’s a visual planner that turns your day into colour blocks instead of one long scary to-do list.

My take after using it:

• Makes your day look simple, not overwhelming

• Great if your brain needs visuals, not walls of text

• Lock screen + widgets = fewer “oh no I forgot” moments

• But the good stuff is on a subscription, so not the cheapest

... Read moreAs someone who used to dread planning my day, constantly overwhelmed by endless to-do lists, discovering Tiimo was a game-changer. My brain often struggles with traditional text-heavy organizers, making the idea of an 'iPhone App of the Year' that caters to 'chaotic brains' incredibly appealing. After spending weeks with it, I can genuinely say Tiimo lives up to much of its promise, especially for visual thinkers like me. The first thing you notice about Tiimo's interface is its brilliant use of color and visual cues. Instead of just a list, my day unfolds in vibrant, color-coded blocks. This 'visual planner' approach helps me intuitively grasp my schedule at a glance. For anyone with ADHD or similar neurodivergent traits, this is revolutionary. It reduces cognitive load significantly, transforming potentially daunting tasks into manageable, bite-sized segments. I've found myself far less anxious about starting my day because the visual structure makes it feel less overwhelming and more achievable. Beyond the colorful layout, Tiimo integrates practical features that genuinely boost productivity. The 'Shortcuts' widget, for example, is a lifesaver. Being able to see 'What's the plan?' directly from my lock screen means fewer 'oh no I forgot' moments throughout the day. I also appreciate the 'task completion interface' with its built-in focus timer. This feature, which uses an hourglass icon, helps me stay present and focused on one task at a time, providing gentle reminders and a sense of accomplishment as each block turns green. It’s like having a personal coach guiding me through my schedule. The app also includes a 'Wellbeing' screen, which I initially overlooked but now find incredibly useful. It encourages checking in with my mood and emotions, providing a holistic view of my day beyond just tasks. This thoughtful integration helps me balance productivity with self-care, which is crucial for preventing burnout. Adding tasks is straightforward with the 'To-do' list input screen, making it easy to adapt my schedule on the fly. While the core experience on the iPhone is fantastic, it's worth noting the Apple Watch app also provides convenient glanceable access, ensuring I stay on track even when my phone isn't handy. Of course, the main point of contention for many, myself included, is the subscription model. Is it worth the investment? For me, the significant reduction in daily stress and the palpable increase in my ability to manage my time effectively make it a worthwhile expense. Compared to other daily planners like 'Structured' (which I also explored), Tiimo's visual-first approach truly resonates with how my brain processes information, making it the superior choice for my specific needs. It’s not just an app; it's become an essential tool for navigating my busy life.
