the perfect running routine for beginners..

2025/9/16 Edited to

... Read moreHey everyone! So glad you’re here to talk about starting your running journey. When I first laced up my shoes, I had no idea where to begin, and honestly, the thought of ‘running’ felt a bit intimidating. But I’ve found a routine that genuinely works for me, especially for keeping that motivation high and avoiding burnout. One of the biggest game-changers for me was truly embracing the idea of starting slow and maintaining a conversational pace. Seriously, if you can’t comfortably chat with someone (or sing along to your playlist!) while you’re jogging, you’re probably pushing too hard. I learned this the hard way – when I did run too fast, I'd get winded, my legs would ache, and I’d dread the next run. It makes you want to quit! Running at a sustainable, slow pace, especially in a beautiful park setting, completely changed my perspective. It became enjoyable, not a chore. It's all about building that aerobic base first. Another tip that helped me immensely was to focus on time, not distance. Initially, I was obsessed with hitting a certain number of miles, but that just added pressure. Instead, I started setting a timer for 20-30 minutes. Some days I'd do walk/run intervals, like 1 minute running, 2 minutes walking, repeating for the duration. Other days, if I felt good, I'd just keep a steady, easy jog. This approach took away the stress and allowed me to listen to my body. It made every run feel like a win, no matter how far I actually went. To keep things consistent and to make sure I wasn’t overdoing it, I aimed to train about three times a week, always leaving a rest day in between. This running schedule for beginners felt manageable and gave my body time to recover and adapt. For example, I might run Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, leaving Tuesday, Thursday, and the weekend for rest or other light activities. Consistency is key, and those rest days are just as important as the running days for preventing injuries and building endurance. And speaking of injuries, don’t skip strength and mobility! I used to think running was just running, but adding simple bodyweight exercises has made a huge difference. Things like squats, lunges, planks, and glute bridges (even just 10-15 minutes a couple of times a week) have made my runs feel stronger and more stable. And for a quick warm-up or cool-down, I love doing high knee marches or marching in place for a few minutes. It really gets the blood flowing and prepares your body without any impact. These beginner-friendly cardio movements are perfect for getting your heart rate up gently. Trust me, a little bit of strength work goes a long way in keeping you healthy and running happily!
