DIY: Non-Toxic All Purpose Cleaner!

Homemade Homestead Holidays Part 5 🎄

Great for a DIY Christmas gift or just for a non-toxic, chemical free all purpose cleaner for your home that smells GREAT! 🍊🌲

Steps:

1) Get a glass bottle

2) Fill about halfway with distilled vinegar

3) Peel several fresh oranges and save the peel!

4) Add several pieces of orange peel to the glass bottle

5) Take some clippings from a pine tree (I got mine from Home Depot)

6) Add the pine clippings to the bottle

7) Top off with more distilled vinegar

8) Screw on the spray top

9) Optional: Make it ✨pretty✨

a) I designed my labels in canva and uploaded them to Printswell to purchase.

b) ribbon and other addons from Hobby Lobby

10) That’s it!!! 🙌🏻 It really is that simple!!! 🧽🫧

... Read moreCreating your own all-natural cleaner is a fantastic way to maintain a non-toxic lifestyle while reducing exposure to harsh chemicals typically found in commercial cleaning products. This recipe utilizes distilled vinegar as the base, which is a powerful natural disinfectant and deodorizer. Adding fresh orange peels infuses the cleaner with natural citrus oils that offer antimicrobial properties and a refreshing scent, enhancing the cleaning power without synthetic fragrances. Incorporating pine clippings not only contributes a subtle, fresh aroma reminiscent of the holiday season but also adds antibacterial qualities. Pine contains natural compounds like alpha-pinene that have antimicrobial effects, making it a fitting ingredient for an effective homemade cleaner dubbed "Pinesol" in a natural version. The process is simple and environmentally friendly—by reusing glass bottles and natural ingredients, you reduce plastic waste and avoid harmful chemicals. Distilled vinegar helps break down grime, grease, and bacteria effectively on various household surfaces including countertops, sinks, and glass. For those considering gifting this cleaner during the holidays, designing personalized labels using tools like Canva and adding decorative elements such as ribbons are great ways to make your gift both practical and aesthetically pleasing. This approach not only supports sustainable living but also encourages creative expression. When using this cleaner, it’s best to test it on a small surface first to ensure compatibility, especially on natural stone or delicate materials, as vinegar is acidic. To enhance versatility, some users add a small amount of liquid castile soap or essential oils for additional scent and cleaning power, but the original recipe maintains simplicity and non-toxicity. Overall, making a homemade non-toxic all-purpose cleaner like this promotes health, reduces environmental impact, and offers a delightful aroma inspired by nature’s bounty. It’s an accessible project that aligns with eco-friendly and chemical-free living movements, perfect for anyone looking to keep their home safe and fresh during the holiday season and beyond.
