... Read moreWow, still buzzing from our incredible 21-mile winter run! My sibling and I set out to conquer this distance, and despite the chilly 12-degree weather, we actually did it. It was more than just a run; it was an adventure, a test of endurance, and a fantastic bonding experience. I wanted to share a bit more about how we tackled this and what made it so memorable, especially for anyone thinking about their own long-distance goals or winter running. First off, preparing for a 21-mile run isn't just about logging miles. For a winter run, it’s crucial to think about gear. We layered up, starting with moisture-wicking base layers, adding a thermal mid-layer, and finishing with a wind-resistant outer shell. Good gloves, a warm hat that covers the ears, and wool socks are non-negotiable when you’re facing a 12° run. Hydration also becomes tricky in the cold because you don't feel as thirsty, but it's just as important. We carried hydration packs filled with water and some electrolytes. Running with a sibling truly made all the difference. There were moments when one of us wanted to slow down or felt the burn, and the other was right there, offering encouragement, a distraction, or just a shared silence of mutual suffering! Having someone by your side who knows your pace, your struggles, and your jokes makes those tough miles fly by a little easier. It turned what could have been a grueling solo effort into a shared triumph. Our route took us past some beautiful farm landscapes, which added such a unique backdrop to our run. The open fields, the occasional livestock, and the crisp, clean air were incredibly refreshing. Running along quiet farm roads meant less traffic and more connection with nature. It’s amazing how much the scenery can lift your spirits when your legs are starting to feel heavy at mile 15. The gentle rolling hills of the farm area also provided a varied terrain, which was a nice challenge. Of course, a 21-mile run, especially in winter, comes with its own set of challenges. The cold was constant, and keeping our fingers and toes warm was a battle. Around mile 18, the mental game really kicked in. Doubt creeps in, and your body screams for a break. That’s when my sibling and I reminded each other of our goal, focused on the next mile marker, and even started inventing silly songs to keep our spirits up. The thought of crossing that finish line together was a powerful motivator. For anyone considering a long winter run, my biggest tip is to listen to your body and dress appropriately. Don't underestimate the cold, even if you’re generating heat. And if you can find a running buddy, especially a sibling or close friend, it makes the experience so much richer. The sense of accomplishment after conquering 21 miles in 12-degree weather, navigating those farm roads, is truly unbeatable. We celebrated with hot cocoa and a massive brunch, already planning our next adventure. What a day!

How Running Changed My Body (lost 18 lbs)👟🏃‍♀️💪🤍
I never realized how much of a difference running made to my body until I would look back at my old photos. Running not only changed my body, but it changed my life in the absolute best way possible because I never thought change was possible. All it took was showing up for myself every single day.

Running to lose weight - 2 weeks in
I have started a running journey - with the goal of running a half marathon by the end of the year (fingers crossed). This is what I’ve learned on week 2: 1. I have so much more mental energy, and I have so much more bandwidth to handle stressors. 2. I’m not currently policing my food i
