Emotional Abuse — Signs You’re Being Gaslit

If you leave conversations feeling confused, start doubting your memory, or feel like you constantly have to explain yourself, you may be experiencing gaslighting.

Over time, repeated denial and manipulation can make you question your own reality.

There are videos on YouTube that gently break this down further. @ElenaGraceHealing

... Read moreGaslighting is a subtle but harmful form of emotional abuse where the manipulator causes you to question your own reality. In my experience, one of the earliest red flags is feeling confused and mentally drained after interactions with the gaslighter. For example, I found myself frequently doubting what I remembered about conversations or events, even though they were clear in my mind moments before. It’s like your personal truth is being erased or twisted. A hallmark of gaslighting is the relentless need to explain yourself repeatedly. You may catch yourself trying to prove what happened or why you feel a certain way, only to be met with denial or accusations that you are overreacting. This persistent invalidation can gradually erode your self-trust, making you question your own judgment and feelings. Confusion, in this context, becomes normalized, which is dangerous because it clouds your ability to assess situations objectively. You may notice that you start prioritizing the gaslighter’s version of reality over your own, which can be disorienting and isolating. What helped me was recognizing these signs early and seeking out resources such as YouTube videos and support groups that explain gaslighting in clear terms. This knowledge empowered me to set boundaries and rebuild my confidence. Healing from gaslighting involves reclaiming your sense of reality and learning to trust your instincts again. If you recognize these patterns in your relationships, it's important to reach out for support. Whether through therapy, trusted friends, or online communities, connecting with others can validate your experiences and guide you on the path to recovery. Remember, emotional abuse like gaslighting is not your fault, and help is available to regain your mental clarity and peace of mind.
