... Read moreFrom my own experience navigating different corporate environments, I've noticed an unsettling trend where looking busy becomes more valued than actual results. It’s like a performance of performance, where employees engage in visible stress and urgency rather than tackling tasks efficiently. This often leads to what the OCR text describes: "visibility becomes more valuable than outcomes." In such workplaces, constant demonstrations of productivity—think rapid email replies, long hours at the desk under harsh fluorescent lighting, or frequent meetings—can overshadow genuine accomplishment. I’ve found this atmosphere draining because it prioritizes appearance over substance, leading to burnout and diminished morale. It’s important to recognize that healthy workplaces do not rely on these theatrical displays of busyness. Instead, effective workplaces focus on meaningful outcomes and trust their teams to manage their work without needing to constantly 'prove' how busy they are. This shift from performative urgency to authentic productivity not only enhances job satisfaction but also fosters sustainable performance. If you find yourself in a culture where "performance of performance" is rewarded, try to refocus your efforts on tangible results and seek allies who value effectiveness over image. Changing deeply ingrained corporate habits is challenging, but raising awareness about these issues can spark necessary conversations about work quality and well-being.
